GEELY DESIGN

My Internship

November 2021 - May 2022

When me and my two classmates started our internship at Geely we were very new and fresh off the school bench. We had little knowledge in the different modeling programs, just the basics. When we started we got matched with our mentor Mattias Niklasson who is an Alias and digital modeling expert. He refreshed our memories of the different tools and then we started with the IP assignment to learn how to model as correctly as possible.

During the internship we have gotten a lot of assignments and projects to do, some of which I have presented on this same page, some being confidential.

After this internship I have gotten a way of working, a way of modeling that I didn’t have before. That is what internships are meant to do, give you direction, help you find your way of working and give you an insight into the workplace and that I have definitely gotten from my time at Geely. It has given me the boost of confidence that I have chosen the right education for me. The education and the internship has been really fun, educational and developing. I´m very thankful for my time at Geely, it's been a great experience and I’ve learned a lot.

"During the autumn of 2021 and spring of 2022, I had the pleasure of getting to know Isabella Eide during her internship with us at Geely Design.

Isabell is easy to work with,  focused, ambitious in her role as Digital modeler.  Isabella has gained good knowledge in Digital modeling through our supervisors and Design quality specialists.  Which is reflected in her results.  During our time with us, Isabella has worked with both training tasks and sharp assignments with good results."

ZEEKR 00+

Masters design project by Lu Tao, MFA Transportation Design 2022, Umeå Institute of Design

I have assisted one of Geelys design interns with her masters degree examination model. I have worked on the dashboard/screen parts.

The assignment was to help out with surface quality, the design student has modeled her parts in Blender and needed help in Alias with some parts that didn't meet the design quality. The work consists of four parts modeled from a blender mesh. I've had continued meetings with the designer and my mentors. The design has made changes throughout the project and I have met the design obstacles that have been reviewed by the designer Lu.

This project has given a great insight into the workplace and how a project with a designer works. Which has given me a great impression and learning into my future work.

DOORPAD

Door panel for CMF (Color, Material and Finnish) for interior evaluation

This is probably one of our sharpest projects and also our examination thesis.

We were given this project by our head LIA manager Andreas Bager to create a door panel for CMF (Color, Material and Finish) that can be used as a testable panel for colors and materials in different settings. This project was finished by calendar week ten and started on calendar week two.

We started the modeling in Blender and finished it in Alias nurbs, where we also learned to check the model with surface check and check the angle of clearance.

This project was really fun and so fun to see the finished product, that hopefully will be used in the workplace for a long time forward.

“SALAMI TACTICS - ONE SLICE AT A TIME”

60th birthday gift for Geely Global Designs Vice President Stefan Sielaff

This was our first real project given to us as interns at Geely. To model a birthday gift from the ZEEKER team to Geely Designs Vice President.

This project was given to us by Lars Falk Head of ZEEKER Design, who presented the idéa of a 3D modeled product consisting of a cutting board and a salami. We modeled it in Blender, in the durtion of less than a week. The salami represents Sielaffs famous quote “one slice at a time”, to his phrase Salami tactics. The product was modeled up in approximately three days, from a design sketch on a post-it note.

Sielaff has been given the finished product and is very happy with his gift. So is the ZEEKER team, we're very happy to be given the opportunity to do this for them, from them.

PRACTICE ASSIGNMENT

IP - Dashboard

This is a practice assignment Geely does for their interns, to practice surface quality modeling. Where the work is being done according to a powerpoint with slides of information about how modeling is supposed to be done, to achieve as clean surfaces as possible.

For instance lead-in, acceleration on curves, as clean main surfaces as possible with as little CV degree structure as possible. That is only a few points mentioned that we have followed during our internship at Geely.

We also did the IP in Blender for a comparison of surface and quality.
